Energy Solutions Director (UK)

Our Energy Solutions Director is a London-based position that will head GreenGen’s European solutions business. This role is suited to a candidate with 10+ years of relevant, in-depth experience in energy services or asset management of multiple asset types, including office, retail, hospitality, student housing, senior living, and industrial facilities with substantial practical experience in reducing a building's energy consumption. The candidate will be comfortable in both a client-facing role and a technical role, and will be able to conduct onsite assessments and surveys. The candidate will lead a team of Europe-based energy engineers to evaluate building characteristics, analyse utility data, and develop energy efficiency solutions to achieve the optimal balance of reduced utility consumption, occupant comfort, and financial returns with the support of a team in the US and Asia.

The Energy Solutions Director will develop technical proposals, grow GreenGen’s network of partners and subcontractors, deliver client presentations, represent GreenGen at conferences, and stay abreast of relevant industry topics such as technology advancements, regulatory requirements, and available incentives for efficiency improvement.

  • Degree-qualified, ideally at a Masters level in a relevant field – Electrical Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; Physics; Building Science – or at least 15 years' practical experience
  • Experienced with BS16247 EN Standard (ISO 50001 and 14001 are a plus)
  • Advanced knowledge of energy efficiency and/or sustainability
  • Chartered or working toward it as an associate of the Energy Institute, CIBSE (or similar) is a plus
  • BREEAM Assessor, LEED AP, or LCEA is a plus

Mandatory Skills:

  • In-depth knowledge of large buildings and their mechanical and electrical systems, particularly HVAC and control systems
  • Practical experience in energy reduction concepts, calculations, and energy modeling.
  • Creative problem-solving skills
  • Superlative quantitative analysis abilities
  • Ability to present analysis in understandable and compelling formats internally and externally
  • Strong interpersonal and client communications skills
  • Team player to inspire and mentor colleagues
  • Working knowledge of at least one European language (French, Spanish, or German) in addition to English

Responsibilities (specific duties will change with each project):

  • Participate in on-site assessments of client facilities throughout the UK and Continental Europe in pursuit of energy saving opportunities
  • Maintain client contact from first introduction through project completion
  • Assist with writing and presenting client proposals for new and existing customers
  • Analyse existing building systems and operational data to determine energy performance and efficiency opportunities
  • Assess feasibility of efficiency solutions and participate in planning and executing their implementation
  • Organise and lead project meetings with owners and subcontractors related to implementation
  • Support the CEO (US-based) with business development
  • Establish and maintain on-site contact with building facilities personnel
  • Conduct travel-planning as necessary to visit client sites and attend conferences
  • Other tasks may include:
  • Review and verify others' energy savings calculations and guide other staff in the best practices for various energy savings technologies, including lighting, HVAC, fans, pumps, air compression, and industrial process use
  • Assess or propose commercial-scale renewable energy and CHP systems, supply-side energy procurement strategies, and demand response technologies
  • Plan and deliver presentations at meetings and training events for clients, partners, and other groups
  • Lead and direct the work of consulting external engineers and equipment suppliers
  • Perform other duties as assigned


Position is based in W1, London, UK. Candidate must be willing to travel to client locations within the UK, Continental Europe, and US for up to 35% of the year in increments of one week or less
